card candy...

i am doing a swap that is totally outside of the box of my crafting. it is to make card candy, or little items that you can add to cards that are premade. kind of like things you buy at the craft store to embellish cards with. it was hard for me to come up with this and i've been putting it off, hoping something would pop into my head! well, i finally had to do it, so this is what i came up with!! there are 10 of us in the swap and we each picked a theme. mine was birthday, obviously!!!

birthday wishes card candy
stamps: stampin up, close to my heart, studio g
cardstock: purely pomegranate, pink pirouette, cool caribbean, so saffron, designer paper (all su)
ink: purely pomegranate (su), onyx black (versafine)
embellishments: purely pomegranate ribbon, crystal effects

more atcs...

i've been a crafting fool lately (or maybe just a fool!) i've got a bunch of swaps that are due in the next week. here are a few i've been working on lately. the first one is for a snowman swap that chris is hosting. i used my cuttlebug and inked the embossing folder before running the cardstock through. i love the technique! the second atc is for a swap sherri is hosting. the theme is our favorite christmas movie. it was hard to narrow it down, but i love the movie "elf"! so i created this atc around one of my favorite quotes from buddy the elf!!! and the last atc is for a special project that i can't reveal right now!! needless to say, it's for a friend going through a rough spot!!
thanks for visiting!!

more halloween cards...

my cute mom came over last to bring me some stampin up stuff. she ended up staying for dinner and then we had a card fest. when she first got here, she was a little upset and showed me some cards she had made the night before that she wasn't happy with. she had a box of stamps and supplies that she was about ready to toss in the garbage. after a lengthy discussion, i talked her into not throwing everything away. we sat down and came up with a few cards and before you know it, it was 3 hours later and we had cranked out 46 cards! we made about 7 different styles. below are 2 cards that i came up with, one we both made and one my cute mom created. by the end of the night, she was feeling better and decided it was a good idea that she didn't throw away!

isn't this the cutest stamp ever? it's actually my cute mom's, but i borrowed it for a swap that had to feature candy corn. PERFECT!! i love love love the little devil candy corn!!! it was my first experience with fun flock. although i love the idea of it, it's kind of a pain in the hiney to do. i need to figure out a better glue to use with it.

fall in utah...

notice this post would be different if i would have titled it "fall in, utah..."

oh yeah, where was i...so the weather in utah can be somewhat of a mystery. take right now, for instance. last weekend it was 27 degrees and i posted pictures of the snow that had materialized overnight. this weekend it was 77 degrees and sunny. weird. i did manage to take some pictures of the fall foliage. they aren't the greatest since i obviously haven't figured out how to take a decent photo with my blackberry. maybe that's the problem!!! these were just around my neighborhood, which is less than 3 years old, so the trees are little. see that snow hiding in the background??? yep, that was from last week.

this one was not by my house, but it shows a bunch of color. i took this with my regular camera, so it's a little better (i hope!).

cards...

can you believe it?? i actually made some cards. it's been a while. i've been working more on atcs than cards. i had to make a little page for a special project (yet to be delivered, so hush hush...) and this is what i made. turns out, i had an idea that it would make a great card. i have a few people in my life who are going through some rough patches at the moment so i think this is a great quote for times like that.

here is the 4x4 page i made for a certain someone. i tried my patience at making my own background. an hour later and a ginormous headache later, i had a new polka dot background. i know, there are many out there, but i just wanted the dots so i could print on any color of paper. it turned out ok. i then wanted a little shine to it, so i covered it in versamark ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. what do you think?

and here are the cards i made after i saw how much i liked the way the page turned out. i didn't "stamp" anything, except the ink for the embossing powder! i printed the sentiment on cardstock. all supplies are stampin up.

tivo glitch...

so my tivo had a glitch and didn't record grey's anatomy last week. thank goodness for full episodes on the internet. my favorite quote from the episode i just watched:

"what would you prefer, meredith, chocolate cake or an std?"

so not ready...

for winter to be here. what happened to autumn/fall? it was here for like 5 minutes. then it changed last night to winter. i know, it's utah, so in 5 more minutes we'll have another day or so of summer, but still. i'm so not ready for this...

my deck isn't either...

and these little guys think it's too early, too...

talkin' turkey and tv...

apparently in my previous post, i forgot to mention one of my favorite tv shows. sherri kindly pointed it out. it's another show i'm somewhat ashamed that i follow, but watch it faithfully none the less. lipstick jungle. i love it. go watch it. and no patty, my tv isn't broken. i do indeed get the channel with pushing daisies, but i've never seen it. is it that good? maybe i'll watch it next week.

i've been working on many swaps the past few days. i repeated the pumpkin atc i previously posted, just tweaked it with different colors and paper for a swap hosted by chris (aka stinky dog!) over at the shack. she is also hosting the witch atc swap that i previously posted. and of course, i can't turn her down, so here is another addition for one of her swaps, talkin' turkey atcs. i went out of my normal comfort zone on this one. i acutally bought a quik kutz die for the first time. i didn't have any turkey stamps and couldn't find one i liked and then i saw this beauty on sale at roberts, so i got it. i can't say i loved cutting all the feathers out, but i do like how it turned out. and i improvised on the legs, since my add kicked in and i wasn't about to try and cut out all the tiny legs!!!

tv...

i know, i know, it's such a waste of time, yadda, yadda, yadda. sitting in front of the tv for hours at a time doing being a couch potato. but come on. it's so needed sometimes!! and plus, i try and multi task and i've worked on many swaps while catching up on my shows. so i thought i'd share some of my favorite tv shows and obsessions...

my favorite new shows (that started last season...)

eli stone...i adore eli stone. he is hilarious, in an odd sort of way. and it makes me laugh. can i just share, however, that i'm not thrilled with katie holmes coming on the show. can't she go somewhere else?? i do love eli's spiritual guru too. cracks me up when he switches back and forth between his "character" as a the chinese acupuncturist and his true american born persona. and come on....they can work a season around george michael??? seriously!!

life...i love this show!!! the way charlie crews and dani reese are so perfect together!!! i know, it's a stretch on how they solve the crimes they solve, but it's very entertaining!!! it cracks me up that charlie never shuts up!!!

dirty sexy money...this is my vice. why on earth do people watch this show? it's because it's amazing that a family could be this screwed up!!! the ad thing is i'm sure there are so many people out there that do live life like this!!! i love watching the family drama between everyone. and having nick george try to keep it all together!!! it's got an odd mix in the cast, but it works well!!! and simon elder (blair underwood), uh hello!!!

and new finds this season (some new, some older):

ace of cakes...oh my hilarious. i can't get enough of duff and his crew. not to mention they make some of the most unbelievable cakes i've ever seen (or even thought could be made into or from cake!) but they are so freaking funny!! i sit and laugh every time. i still crack up when i think of duff dressed as the pink elephant driving down the street!!! i don't know how mary alice manages this whole mess!!! you can check out charm city cakes here.

dinner: impossible...ok, so i used to make so much fun of my dad for watching the food network. now it's one of my favorite stations!!! this show is great in that it's a huge race to see if the two chefs, robert and michael, can create a menu and do the challenge in the alloted amount of time. it's funny to see what they both create and what happens along the way. both of them are hilarious!
then there are my previous favorites:

  • gray's anatomy
  • brothers & sisters
  • heros
  • anything related to the real world/road rules (my true vice...i've seen every season of all of them...isn't that sad?)
  • dirty jobs
  • jon and kate plus 8
  • biggest loser (you'd think i would have learned something by now!!)
  • my name is earl
  • deadliest catch

know you all know what i do on my days off!! catch up with the tivo!!!

the wishes continue...

i've got another chapter in the book of the 10 wishes circle journal to share. the wishes don't change, but the layout does. it's funny because when i got this cj, which is gaerria's, i thought i would do a similar layout to the one i did last for sherri's cj. i really liked how i did each wish, with the punch and the stamp that matches. so i started out that way, then found this background paper that was exactly 6x6. how weird is that? it is, trust me, because most of my paper is never cut square unless is straight from a pad of paper. and i had two that matched. and i loved the design. so i decided to do a little something different, but similar. the wishes with ribbon are secured with pop dots, so there is a little dimension to the pages. i also needed something on the page opposite the page with the "10 wishes" title, so i layered some ribbon. i wasn't sure about it, but it's growing on me. i hope gaerria likes it!!!

10 wishes...
cardstock: kiwi kiss, soft sky, patterned paper-unknown
stamps: stampin up
embellishments: staples, stampin up ribbon, making memories ribbon

wicked...

ok, so i'm in a swap hosted by chris (aka stinky dog) that is a witch atc swap. i have no stamps or anything that is really a witch, except this stamp from studio g:

so i had to get creative and figure out a way to make a cute atc without just using the stamp and making it plain. well, of course i turned to my odd bird planet owls (yes, my latest obsession...) and found one that was perfect!!! this is what i created. i wanted to add a little more to it, so i doodled the broom. i think it turned out pretty ok!

wicked
stamps: odd bird planet, stampin up, studio g
cardstock: really rust & designer paper from su, black-unknown
ink: really rust, more mustard
